Dear Figma Hiring Team,

I am excited to apply for the product designer position at Figma and would like to introduce myself through this letter.

Upon reading this post on the Figma blog, I was immediately intrigued by the expectation diagram, and I decided to create a diagram to showcase my abilities and skills. I believe I am the perfect candidate for this position, and I hope to show you why.

If I were on the team, where I’ll be

Why I’m Unique 🌈

In short, I’m a unicorn 🦄
One of my unique qualities is that I possess a strong combination of engineering and design skills, as well as a keen eye for aesthetics. This combination allows me to create high-quality prototypes, which is crucial for a growth team. I believe that the rapidly evolving world requires a new type of designer who understands both design and technology. I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science at Dartmouth, and I have more than ten years of experience as a UI/UX designer. Through my journey as a designer and my studies in CS, I realized that my passion lies in building impactful products that can make a difference in the world. I believe that Figma is at the forefront of design and technology, and it would be an honor for me to join the team.

My skill set

I work fast 🚀

I have extensive experience working in fast-paced environments, where I have worked for four different startups and helped them grow their businesses. I understand the ins and outs of startups and the business world. I am also passionate about participating in hackathons, such as BlockStay, where I enjoy building MVPs in just 24 hours.

Strong Aesthetics👨‍🎨

My experience working in the fashion e-commerce industry for companies such as Ycloset and Cider has given me a high standard of aesthetics, which keeps me open-minded in the world of art and design. I have built a range of apps, from finance and fashion to social media, AI, and e-commerce, that showcase my exceptional product sense. I’ve worked on more than

Good Communicator 🤙

I am an excellent communicator and have previously led teams at Cider and Ycloset, where I was responsible for recruiting and managing UX and branding teams, developing and maintaining the company’s brand identity, designing digital experiences, and streamlining the design workflow. I collaborated with cross-functional teams to design holistic experiences across various platforms and communicated my design ideas through wireframes, flow diagrams, storyboards, mockups, and high-fidelity prototypes.

More than prototyping 🥷

As a CS master, I love to build my own tools. I have extensive engineering skills and prototyping abilities, including proficiency in Python, Java, C, JS, and full-stack development. Except for mockups and prototypes, I can build a functional app and web in a short time. For example, at Nvidia, I wrote a Photoshop scripts to automate the QA process for graphic design, which increased team efficiency in design production, by 50%. For an even heavier code-based apps, I have previously built my own tiny search engine.

Data analysis 📊

In addition to my design experience, I am also well-versed in data analysis. I have experience in data science frameworks like SkLearn and Pandas. I have participated in the Numer.ai tournament for stock market signal prediction, where I analyzed financial data and trained my own machine learning models in Python. This experience has equipped me with a deep understanding of data mining and analysis, allowing me to uncover valuable insights and patterns that can inform decision-making. I believe that my expertise in data analysis will be a valuable asset in conducting research and providing meaningful insights for the team at Figma.

Business Sense 💸

I have a track record of helping startups grow, including Ycloset, where I helped the company raise $50M from round A to round C through the commercialization of the product’s concept, applying design thinking, prototyping, and data insights to product development. I also drove a 15.53% increase in user conversion rates by utilizing various design methodologies such as survey, usability testing, A/B testing, focus groups, and data analytics to improve the users’ product experience.

Culture and Passion ✨

Finally, I am a curious individual who is always eager to learn. After ten years of work in design, I decided to pursue a CS degree to deepen my knowledge and understanding of technology. I have gained a solid foundation in CS through my master’s degree, and I am currently learning about AI/ML, Blockchain, and VR/AR.

How I picture my skills on Figma’s assessment diagram

I am excited about the opportunity to join the Figma team and continue my journey as a product designer. I am passionate about building products that can make an impact on the world, and I believe Figma is the perfect platform to do so. Thank you for considering my application.
